About

Hi, I’m Gemma, originally from the UK, I set up Immerse Drama as I simply love what I do, I have been teaching for over 20 years now, which makes me feel old, but I started when I was 16 assisting the class I attended!

I love passing on knowledge and inspiring young talent and creativity as I feel it is an important part of our growth for all ages (including adults!) in being able to connect with our emotions, learn empathy and express our ideas through creative projects.

I trained in theatre, and have since trained on screen craft with leading coaches and casting directors in the UK, LA, and Australia.

I have worked as an actor, writer, director and producer, you name it, if you want to get yourself out there, you learn a wide range of skills to make it happen.

Me and my team of teachers, are all artists currently working in the industry across a wide variety of areas from stage, screen, circus and onstage and backstage too!

We believe your journey can start young, as we can all absorb music, dance and stories and start to participate and unleash our creativity, and it never has to end, we have had older adults start in our courses, after a burning desire to find a way to the stage or screen, and they were such a pleasure to work with.

Everyone is welcome in our classes, from beginners of all ages to those looking for a fresh approach.

We believe in nurturing, practical, down to earth performers, by giving a variety of approaches to stage and screen, you can start to test and try and find out what techniques brings out the best in you.

Hefty text books and essays from practitioners can still provide an in-depth insight to the craft, but in class, it’s about having the freedom to play, try, fail and find what works! And we have done the reading for you, so we can pass this onto you in easy to absorb bitesize exercises, adaptable to all ages.

We always work with a goal in mind, this provides us with a clear focus, and a sense of achievement when we hit our goals!

As much as we love live performance, the ease of filming now, lets us delve into building recorded material too, as a showreel and library of our range of work, as well as creative projects, exploring narratives through short films, web series and skits.

We keep up to date with industry an casting professionals to see what they are looking for, so those that do want to delve further into the working actor life, can start to make contacts and find their path.

We work and share as a group, watching and learning from each other, the key skill in acting is listening, respecting others in the group and in our scene work. As we explore literature and dialogue, we improve our communication skills. “Acting is mainly about listening, just focus on what the other person says, and it takes care of itself”

Performance is a collaboration, even solo work is for an audience or requires a crew. In our sessions, we work together, building ideas, learning from others and discovering how unique we are, and what we can achieve together. “There are no small parts, only small actors”
